Lately, VMware Carbon Black users reported about the BSOD or Blue Screen of Death error they are facing while using the endpoint security solution Carbon Black.
VMware has confirmed that more than 50 organizations have contacted them. VMware said the BSOD error was caused by the new ruleset deployed to Cloud Sensor earlier this week. The ruleset versions from 3.6.0.1979 to 3.8.0.398 was causing this BSOD issue affects the systems having Windows 10 x64, Server 2012 R2 x64, and Server 2019 installed.
Besides the BSOD errors, several users reported that a bug caused their systems to get stuck in the boot loops. VMware investigated the matter and disclosed a conflict between Carbon Black and AV signature pack 8.19.22.224.
Meanwhile, VMware has introduced an updated Threat Research ruleset to Prod01, Prod02, ProdEU, ProdSYD, and ProdNRT following a few internal testing and affirmed they are no more issues.
Talking about the incident, VMware said, “VMware Carbon Black is aware of an issue affecting a limited number of customer endpoints, where certain older sensor versions were impacted by an update of our behavioral preventative capabilities. The issue has been identified and corrected, and VMware Carbon Black is working with impacted customers.”
