AWS Opens New Swiss Region

Amazon Web Services opened a Swiss cloud region in Zurich, Switzerland.

Meanwhile, AWS’ principal developer advocate, Sébastien Stormacq said, “I am pleased to announce today the opening of our 28th AWS Region: Europe (Zurich), also known by its API name: EU-Central-2.”

With the recent development, AWS has three availability zone in Zurich city.

Back in 2020, Amazon Web Services announced its plans to develop the Swiss cloud region with an investment of about $5.9 billion from 2022-2036.

Currently, AWS clients of the Swiss cloud region include Richemont, Fisch Asset Management, Helvetia, Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, Swisscom, Swiss Post, and Swisstopo among several others.

AWS’ counterparts Microsoft has two Swiss Azure regions in Zurich and Geneva while Google has one GCP in Zurich.
