AWS and Google both won trial cloud from the Japanese Government.
According to reports from the Asian news website ‘Nikkei Asia‘, Hyperscalers, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud Platform have been chosen by Japan’s Digital Agency to offer its cloud computing services across the country.
For those who don’t know, Japan’s Digital Agency was established in September 2021. The Digital Agency works on boosting the digital transformation across various government departments and agencies in the country. Most importantly, it manages the majority of the government’s IT budget.
An official working for the Digital Agency said that both the tech giants i.e AWS and GCP were picked as they fulfilled nearly 350 requirements across the data management, security, legal issues, etc.
Both these companies have been picked on a trial basis to power the agency’s website and also the websites of eight municipalities
According to the official, the budget for government cloud computing till March 2022 is set at 2 billion yen i.e roughly $17 million.
Meanwhile, Amazon Web Services Japan talking about the cloud computing contract said that the cloud contract with Japan’s Digital Agency will make itself the first cutting-edge technologies provider to offer cloud computing services, thereby helping the Japanese Government modernize its IT systems.
Additionally, Google Cloud also gave a statement regarding the Cloud contract from the Japanese Government.
Google Cloud said they are highly privileged to be picked as the cloud service provider for the Government departments and agencies and will look forward to fulfilling the Digital Agency’s needs i.e: a quicker, cost-effective, and reliable cloud solution.
