On the 19th of October, Facebook’s co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Facebook’s plans to change its corporate name. He just talked about plans to change the company’s name but didn’t provide any further details on when and what will be the new name of Facebook Company.

Now, on Thursday, 28th of October, during the Facebook annual Connect conference, Mark took the stage and announced the company’s new name as ‘Meta‘ to emphasize its vision ‘metaverse‘.

For those who don’t know, metaverse refers to the shared virtual world environments where people can access those environments through the internet.

In a nutshell, it’s a collection of digital spaces that offers a real-like experience with the help of virtual reality or augmented reality.

This clearly explains that Facebook is working on virtual and mixed reality environments project and wants to remove the tag of just a social media company.

Facebook says them working on virtual reality and augmented reality projects, will be the future of social networking.

Since Mark’s announcement, the internet went crazy. Mixed reactions were seen as some of the internet users started poking fun at Facebook’s name change to meta.

Even some big tech companies and celebrities started posting Facebook name change memes on Twitter and several other social media platforms.

Between all these tweets, trolls, and memes, several people are perplexed whether Facebook’s name will change or not.

Just the parent company name has been changed to Meta just like Google’s parent company name changed to Alphabet in 2015.

We would like to tell our readers Facebook as well as it’s subsidiary businesses Instagram and WhatsApp will retain its name.

Mark Zuckerberg said the blue app will still be known as Facebook. However, the branding will be removed from its subsidiary apps i.e: Instagram and Facebook. All of these apps will come under the ‘Meta’ brand.
