WordPress 5.9 RC1 is now available for testing. In the last month, WordPress announced the availability of WordPress 5.9 Beta 4 for testing.
With the availability of the first release candidate for WordPress 5.9, we are just three weeks away from the WordPress 5.9 final release on Jan 25, 2022.
The term Release Candidate signifies that the new version of the software is ready for release. The RC helps the community to test the update and check if the software is not missing anything.
Given the fact, WordPress has a plethora of plugins and themes and also millions of users use this software, RC updates are crucial before the final release.
Additionally, WordPress in its blog post thanked everyone who contributed to the community in working towards WordPress 5.9 release.

Testing WordPress 5.9 RC1
Users can test the WordPress 5.9 release candidate in three ways:
- First option is to install and enable the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (Select the Bleeding edge channel and Beta/RC only stream)
- Second option is to directly download the .Zip file of the WordPress 5.9 first release candidate.
- Third option is to use the WP-CLI, to Upgrade from Beta 1, Beta 2 or Beta 3 or Beta 4 to RC1 on a case-insensitive file system, use the following command sequentially:
Command One:
wp core update --version=5.9-RC1
Command Two:
wp core update --version=5.9-RC1 --force
