Instagram is planning to drop the Swipe-Up Gesture and replace it with link stickers. A few Instagram users reported that they got a notification about the change which will be executed starting August 30.

Swipe-Up Gesture is a gesture in Instagram that allows users to access the links posted in the stories.

App researcher, Jane Manchun Wong tweeted about this change:

Swipe-Up links will soon be stickers

This feature will be first introduced to some groups of people before eventually rolling out globally.

At the moment only verified Instagram users and people who have 10k+ followers can add Swipe-Up Gesture to their stories. So, users can access the website. However, with the new Instagram update, users will have a link sticker option that will allow them to embed the link in it.

When Instagram introduces this new link sticker feature starting from Aug 30, users will have better control and flexibility. The stickers can be toggled into different styles, resize, and placed anywhere in your story. This will give maximum impact to your story.

Additionally, people can either reply or react to the stories which have the link stickers. Currently, this option is not available with the Swipe-Up Gesture.

Since June, Instagram was testing link sticker and examing how this could affect the spread of spam, misinformation, etc.
