Equinix is planning to close its MA2 data center in the Manchester city of UK.
In June 2023, one of the renowned data center operators, Equinix plans to close the facility as their lease on the property expires during that month.
Recently, the company closed its data center in Frankfurt, Germany, and Helsinki, Finland.
The previous month, Marek Isalski, CTO at hosting firm FAELIX tweeted that Equinix was “calling time” on MA2, and incorporated a screenshot of an email from the colo company to clients.
Equinix’s clients located at MA2 got a mail from the company stating that the facility at Reynolds House, 4 Archway, Hulme, is scheduled to close on 30th June 2023, and any equipment of the client within the MA2 data center should be withdrawn before this date. Clients are required to migrate to an alternative IBX data center facility.
Additionally, Equinixin the email also stated that the lease on the property was due to end and following evaluation, the data center doesn’t fulfill the company’s operation criteria.
Currently, Equinix operates four data center facilities in Manchester summing up the total colocation space of about 80000 square feet or about 7425 square meters. And, MA1, MA2, MA3, and MA4 are all leased facilities.
MA2 facility equips 20,500 sqft or 1900 sqm of colocation space over three floors and about 1.5MW of capacity.
Back in October, the company announced its plans for a data center within the Manchester city named MA5. While the first phase of this facility is scheduled to be opened by the second quarter of 2022 with 3600 sqm of colocation space, once it is completely built, it will offer 6480 sqm of colocation space.
