American Digital Infrastructure company, Equinix has announced that the construction of Bogota International Business Exchange data center.
The Bogotian data center has been named BG2 and it is anticipated to be opened in first half of 2023. The new 32000 sqft colocation space will be part of Equinix mission to expand into Latin America.
Equinix’s BG2 Colombian data center will be one of the largest in the region, offering global and local clients direct and secure connectivity to the world’s digital economy through digital ecosystems.
Reportedly, BG2 will have the holding capacity for 550 cabinets will additional space for any future phases. At max, the data center can hold 1100 cabinets.
Since 2011, Equinix has invested about $2 billion in Latin American region including expansions in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Peru.
Equinix being one of the largest digital infrastructure company, has over 240 data center in 71 markets.
Meanwhile, Equinix Americas president, Tara Risser said, “We chose to invest in Colombia because the country has a fast-growing IT sector and is part of the fourth-largest economy in LATAM. The country’s economy has boomed over the past decade, driven by thriving energy and manufacturing sectors.
