Popular chat messaging app ‘WhatsApp’ has been spotted testing out a new feature that will allow users to continue listening to message even while they exit the chat or switch to another chat.

Currently, WhatsApp’s voice message player pauses the audio file whenever a user exits the chat. However, with the voice message feature update, users can play voice messages in the background.

This feature can be handy in certain use cases like when you are listening to a voice message within a chat and at the same time want to reply to messages from another chat.

For the last few months, WhatsApp has been actively working on improving the voice message feature thereby making it more user engaging.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the global voice note player is currently under development and will be made available to beta testers soon.

Additionally, the WhatsApp feature tracker has shared a screenshot suggesting users about the feature.

In the aforementioned screenshot, you can see that the voice message continues to play on WhatsApp’s home screen and offers the pause button and close button to exit the global voice message player.

As you can see in the screenshot below, this feature will also be available on WhatsApp beta for iOS.
