On Friday, the company launched 36 satellites from Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia. With this launch, it brings the whole in-orbit constellation to 110 satellites as a part of OneWeb’s 648 LEO satellite fleet that will offer high-speed, low-latency connectivity all around the globe.

With the launch, the company ‘OneWeb’ will be able to offer its services to the clients in the UK, Alaska, Greenland, Northern Europe, The Arctic Seas, Iceland, and Canada from the end of 2021 and globally from 2022.

Additionally, the company stated that it has obtained the global priority spectrum rights, and currently it accomplished four successful launches and endeavors to give high-speed internet from OneWeb satellites in India by Q2 2022.

Bharti Enterprises chairperson Mittal stated that OneWeb’s satellite network will be benefitting less developed countries like Africa, India. As the rural broadband connectivity in India and other developing countries will be boosted. For vital applications like defense, the UK’s defense ministry is already engaging with the company as they want connectivity in isolated or remote areas.

Mittal additionally stated that the satellite network will play a very significant role in offering 5G services as it will reach isolated or remote areas where fiber and radio airwaves won’t penetrate. He further added that the cost of utilizing satellite networks is the most expensive amongst the three mediums, therefore, fiber and spectrum will be the selected modes of transmission of data wherever they will be available.
