Microsoft is enhancing its update experience for its Microsoft 365 products.
Microsoft with its new feature named update under lock for Microsoft 365, is a productivity office suite service used by millions of employees, students, and businesses across the globe.
Microsoft’s click-to-run technology focuses on maintaining security as well as performance while the update is going on. The update process goes in the background when the device is either in idle mode or locked.
This means no human interaction is needed while the update process is going on. So, even if you are not in front of your computer, the update process could be done.
Update under lock feature also lets users install vital updates even if the applications run on the device. The update process initiates only when Microsoft finds it safe to shut down the applications; after any files are saved and no tasks are running in the background.
Microsoft 365 installs the patch update and reverts to the prior state within 4 seconds if safe to shut down and if Microsoft finds that it is unsafe, the update will be switched to regular update mode and alerted about the updates.
This new feature will be delivered to:
- Microsoft 365 subscriptions, Visio, Project (except Microsoft teams)
- Retail consumer/perpetual Office 2016, 2019, and 2021
Additionally, Microsoft brings an Autopatch feature that will break the conventional patch Tuesday by offering the updates automatically.
