Limelight Acquires Yahoo Edgecast, Rebrands as Edgio

Leading provider of edge cloud access services, Limelight acquires Yahoo’s Edge Cast CDN services and rebranded the joined company as Edgio.

Earlier this week, the CDN provider announced that it will be acquiring Edgecast, Inc. from Yahoo & Apollo Global Management in an all-stock transaction valued at about 300 million dollars.

In the upcoming months, the combined company will be named Edgio.

Edgecast provides Edge Computing, Content Delivery Network (CDN), Function-as-a-Service, and streaming delivery services.

Collectively, the companies will have over 300 PoPs (point of presence) and over 200Tbps, and in the year 2021, the duo have generated $502 million in revenue.

Bob Lyons, CEO of Limelight, Limelight, and Edgecast acquisition will help both the companies to build a power application, content, and video edge enabled solutions company that offers enhanced client performance, productivity, and security for the outcome buyer.

He further stated that collectively the companies have a strong value proposition in serving the fast-growing, yet fragmented Edge solutions market, and the companies’ united capabilities will boost its ability to capture more share of this high growth $40 billion total TAM.

Back in 2006, EdgeCast Network Inc was founded and later got acquired by Verizon in 2013.
