Lately, Elementary announced the availability of Elementary OS 6.1. The news of the latest update to its Linux distro comes four months following the announcement of elementary OS 6 Odin.
Elementary founder and CEO Danielle Foré said OS 6 has been downloaded more than 250K times from the website and these stats do not include third-party downloads and torrent downloads.
Furthermore, she announced the availability of the OS 6.1 Jólnir in the blog post. The new update will be a huge functional update for the current users that comprise of the change in the prior monthly updates and brings in new features concentrating the addressing feedback, extending hardware compatibility, and addition of office productivity features.
Besides this, some other changes included in the update are; the lock screen and login screen in the elementary OS 6.1 now uses an accent color, more enhanced IMAP authentication for online accounts, two-finger swipe gesture for videos, users can save full-resolution images with webcam apps, dark style preference in OS 6.1. miscellaneous enhancements to the calendar, the OS 6.1 is based on Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS, Web 41 aka Epiphany included, and now battery percentage will be shown when the battery is low.
Additionally, there are various other tweaks added; now it’s simpler to set device name, finding some specific settings are easier.
