The Opera web browser has declared that it will be supporting websites that use .Crypto domain names from Unstoppable Domains and the .Eth ones from Ethereum Name Service. Even though google needs time to adopt decentralized web technology, smaller search engines are interested in decentralized web technology.
.Crypto is an alternate-root domain name which means that it is not part of the domain name that common people use. The users need to use a compatible browser or browser plugin for domains to redirect to a website.
The company’s Android app is the first browser to support the domain names. The app Opera browser by default has a built-in crypto wallet so its naturally suitable for the domain. In the Google Play Store, the app has recorded more than three million downloads. By installing an ‘Unstoppable Extension’ user can access Unstoppable Domains’ top-level domains.
The alt- root domain names don’t work everywhere which is a big strain. The domain names work with some of the cryptocurrency wallets. In addition to this, it functions as website addresses and pitch its domain as protected from censorship.
Expanding its services
Opera becomes the second-largest web browser to support the decentralized web after Unstoppable Domains’ browser. To bring the blockchain-browsing experience to a new level, Opera has added several new features.
Currently, Opera users in Scandinavia and the US have web 3 capabilities. They can access a built-in crypto wallet across its mobile and desktop browsers. Opera plans to expand to the rest of the EU, including Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and Switzerland. The future of decentralized web is coming via IPFS-protocol support and will change our perception of only data access. The users can easily transfer cryptocurrencies by registering .Crypto wallet addresses.
Currently, Unstoppable Domains has 200,000 paid domain registrations over its top-level domains, which involves .zil and .crypto.
