ICANN70 to be Held Online on 22-25 March

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) declared that because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, ICANN70 is scheduled to be held as an online virtual event on 22-25 March.

This is not the first time that ICANN is rescheduling its event. Earlier in June 2020, ICANN rescheduled its ICANN 69 event which was scheduled to be hosted on 17-22 October 2020, in Hamburg, Germany but was a virtual event due to the impact of COVID-19. Also, in March 2020 two ICANN events got canceled due to the rising threat of coronavirus.

ICANN70 to be 4th Virtual Meeting

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the ICANN 70 will be the 4th virtual event. The event was first planned to be held in Cancún, Mexico. The board of ICANN additionally said that they will deploy various community suggestions to improve the virtual experience.

ICANN additionally stated that they understand the importance of face-to-face communication and they are looking ahead for offline ICANN Public Meetings whenever it is practically possible. And as ICANN cares about the health and safety of the ICANN community, in-person meetings won’t be possible at the moment.
