ICANN Public Meetings
As per the announcement, the health and safety of the ICANN community is the topmost precedence and yet there are few barriers left that obstruct conducting big international meetings that incorporate current limitations on international travel, difficulties in getting visas, social distancing protocol, the threats posed to the local host community, diminished flight accessibility and the chance of resurgence which will result in a further lockdown.
ICANN Board Chairman, Maarten Botterman stated that the safety and health of the global ICANN community is the topmost priority, and staff is the most crucial concern for any Public Meeting. Currently, there are yet several difficulties involved in conducting an in-person meeting. The Board considers that this is a wise choice as the decision provides them enough time to schedule a successful Annual General Meeting. The Boards think that a lot of parts still get to be done hence, resume their concentration on getting the work done collectively.
ICANN shows gratitude to the Hamburg host panel and their regional partners in Europe, who have contributed their support and input during the planning process for ICANN69.
