According to the reports, Apple said that the iPhone 5G launch will be delayed by a few months due to the coronavirus outbreak. Because of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the highly awaited 5G iPhone launch is delayed according to a report in Nikkei.
Apple is already a year behind its two biggest competitors Samsung Electronics and Huawei Technologies in launching 5G capable handset. At the beginning of this year, Apple planned to set an aggressive target for the launch of a 5G iPhone. The company also gave instructions to its suppliers to be ready to make 100 million units and designing four different models of handsets.
Coronavirus effect
Apple is nearly watching outbreaks in the U.S and Europe from where more than half of its sales do. The company will be assessing both the countries and will look for a conclusion if the delay is required or not.
The engineering progress of the 5G iPhone has also been influenced by travel restraints introduced in the U.S., China and elsewhere to fight against the coronavirus, two people with knowledge of Apple’s schedule. The company was assumed to work with suppliers to develop a more concrete model for the new phones from early March, but it had to delay such close collaboration, which needs hands-on testing, until the end of the month, before delaying it again due to the worsening pandemic in the U.S.
